REMINDER…

 

Personal Property can be filed as of January 1, 2012.  Please remember to bring your  depreciation schedule when filing!  Prior year personal property schedules WILL NOT be mailed out, please refer to the copy you were given last year when you filed as a reference. Thank you!! 

 

We will begin accepting Homestead Exemption applications after February 1st.  Prior applicants will receive a pre-printed form in the mail.  Forms are available at the Assessor's office for all new applicants.

 

The County Assessor has the duty to value all real and personal property in the county as a basis for the county board to levy taxes. The Assessor and Deputy Assessor must be certified by the Department of Property Assessment & Taxation in order to hold office and obtain the required continuing education hours to be recertified.

PLEASE REMEMBER to fill out a building permit with the Assessor’s Office and the Zoning Administrator for any alterations, additions, demolition, and any other changes to your property.  You must complete entire form including signature or permit will be void.

TAX DUE DATES

 

Homestead Exemptions:

·        Applications are accepted from February 1st to June 30th   , no appointment is necessary.

·        If you are required to file taxes, please bring your completed tax return when you come to file homestead.  

·        If you do not file a tax return, please bring all income information with you.

·        Everyone should bring documentation for medical co-pays, prescription co-pays, mileage to medical appointments, glasses, dental appointments, etc.  This may help you receive more of an exemption!

 

Personal Property:

·        All depreciable personal property used in a trade or business, or for the production of income, is taxable.  This property shall be assessed to the owner as of January 1 at 12:01 a.m.  Please take or mail your itemized depreciation worksheet from your current income tax return to the County Assessor’s Office after you have completed your tax filing.  Deadline for filing is May 1.  Penalty for voluntary filing between May 1 and July 31 is 10% of the tax due.  Penalty for voluntary filing August 1 or later is 25% of the tax due. 

·        Failure to receive a return, or notice, from the Assessor does not exempt you from filing a personal property schedule, if you have taxable property.
